The Adirondack Balloon Festival has been a destination for tourists and locals alike since the 1970s. Over the years, more and more have flocked to the area for the spectacle of balloons and fun. Now, more than 150,000 people come to the region for this unique event. Just look to the skies for the Adirondack Balloon Festival.
Get the Festival Deets
In 2022, the Adirondack Balloon Festival happens over three days of fun from Sept. 22-25. If you are closer to Queensbury, head to Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport. In addition, there will be fun and balloons at Crandall Park in Glens Falls. If you like being prepared ahead of time, head to the website to buy your VIP parking passes, so you’re ready for the main event. But you can also use the general parking, which is free. Finally, check back often since the official schedule and the list of pilots will be posted soon.
Supporters Make It Happen
One of the best things about the Adirondack Balloon Festival is that the event itself is free. In fact, the people who work tirelessly to set everything up are volunteers. People who love the balloons and the community can donate to help keep everything going. In addition, there are great items at the event that you can buy that will help support the festival.
The Weather Makes the Schedule
While the event organizers do make a schedule, the ultimate decision maker is always the weather. Of course, the best weather for balloon flying is sunny and calm. However, the weather does not always work with the balloons and pilots. As a result, sometimes delays happen. If it is rainy or too windy, it’s not likely the balloons can take off. The pilots always do their best, but safety is the most important thing. In addition, some weather makes it impossible for the balloon to fly even if the pilot were to try.

Balloons and More
Of course, the balloons are the main event, but there is so much more to see. Wander around and enjoy the handiwork at the craft fair. Then, if you’re feeling a bit hungry, check out the delicious food vendors. Many people flock to the festival every year. Some people make lifelong friends at the festival and enjoy meeting up again at each festival. However, keep in mind that the festival does not allow pets since the loud noises and crowds can create an unsafe situation. And finally, don’t forget your layers. The morning can start out chilly until the sun comes out in full force. Enjoy your Adirondack Balloon Festival experience!
