The History of the Glens Fall Symphony
This symphony dates back more than 30 years. During that time and still today, it provides a musical experience best described as magical. Founded in 1977, it started as a regional orchestra. At that time, members performed at the old Adirondack Community College. However, the orchestra became incorporated in 1983.
It was in 1990 when the Glens Falls Symphony board members voted for membership in the American Federation of Musicians. This was a big step as the federation is a national organization and part of the union for professional musicians. Then in 2000, the symphony hired a new director, Charles Peltz. He continues in this role today.
Subscription Season
If you want, you can subscribe to a season of music performed by the Glens Falls Symphony. As part of that, you’ll get to attend five outstanding performances. They’re held every Sunday at 4:00 p.m., starting in October and going through the end of May.
In addition, the orchestra consists of professional musicians from New York, Boston, Rochester, New Jersey, the Capital District, and more. That ensures the finest performances possible. Also, this symphony holds all its performances in the auditorium at the Glens Falls High School. Capable of seating 1,200 people, everyone enjoys comfortable seating and excellent acoustics.
The Uniqueness of the Glens Falls Symphony
Along with diverse programming, this group of professionals often performs alongside gifted students from the area. However, there’s more. It also offers free summer concerts, which include the big event on July 3. While listening to music, you can watch a firework display.
There’s even a Glens Falls Symphony Children’s Chorus. The talent of these young people is immeasurable. Although this symphony comes from one of the smallest cities in the United States, it’s touched the hearts of thousands upon thousands of people.
